OUR STORY
The Slovak Film Festival Los Angeles was founded to create a dedicated platform for Slovak cinema in one of the world's most influential entertainment capitals.
While Slovak filmmakers continue to receive recognition at international festivals and contribute to productions around the world, there has never been a festival in Los Angeles solely dedicated to celebrating Slovak film, culture, and creative talent. The festival was established to help bridge that gap and create meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange between Slovakia and the United States.
WHY SLOVAK CINEMA?
My passion for Slovak cinema began long before I entered the film industry. Growing up in Slovakia, I was surrounded by films, stories, and artists who shaped my love for storytelling and inspired my creative journey.
Today, as a filmmaker and producer working in Los Angeles, I have the privilege of working in the industry I admired throughout my life. At the same time, I have become increasingly aware of the incredible talent that exists in Slovakia, - filmmakers, actors, writers, cinematographers, composers, and artists whose work deserves greater international recognition.
Slovak creators continue to achieve remarkable success both at home and abroad, yet many face challenges in bringing their work to wider audiences and building connections within the global film community.
The Slovak Film Festival Los Angeles was created to help bridge that gap.
Our goal is to create a platform where Slovak stories can travel beyond borders, where filmmakers can connect with new audiences and industry professionals, and where the creativity, talent, and cultural richness of Slovakia can be celebrated in one of the world's most influential entertainment capitals.
By bringing Slovak cinema to Los Angeles, we hope to build a lasting bridge between Slovakia and Hollywood, one that opens doors, creates opportunities, and inspires future generations of storytellers.
WHY
LOS ANGELES?
Los Angeles is home to one of the largest film communities in the world.
By bringing Slovak cinema to Los Angeles, the festival creates opportunities for filmmakers to connect with audiences, producers, distributors, industry professionals, and fellow artists while introducing American audiences to stories, perspectives, and creative voices they may not otherwise encounter.
Zuzana Martinková is a Slovak producer, filmmaker, and film industry professional based in Los Angeles. Her work spans feature films, television, documentaries, and international productions. Through the Slovak Film Festival Los Angeles, she aims to strengthen cultural connections between Slovakia and the United States while creating new opportunities for Slovak filmmakers to showcase their work on an international stage.
FOUNDER
Over the years, she has worked on a wide range of productions across development, production, and post-production, collaborating with both independent filmmakers and major studios. Her recent credits include the union feature film The Last Firefighter, starring Jon Voight and Kelsey Grammer, as well as projects for Paramount Pictures.
As both a Slovak filmmaker and a member of the international film community in Los Angeles, she brings a unique perspective that bridges two worlds - the rich storytelling traditions of Slovakia and the global reach of Hollywood.
